We won't benefit from kicking every site out that isn't liked by 2 or 3 poeple.

Im not talking about kicking out sites, i was more referring to certain guidelines, like fonts, capitals, well the things we discussed before. I ll be the last to kick others out, that aint my responisbility to do so , im just new here, ;)

Those guidelines have been implemented but that's not really what this thread is about. Well it is actually. These sites mentioned at the start have passed the general test but some people don't like them and want them out.

    I don't find that necessary.

If linking is like voting, it shouldn't matter who you link to. Of course like in real life, you shouldn't vote for known corrupt and criminal people so yes, you shouldn't link to really dodgy sites. That's why they aren't allowed. But it wouldn't be democratic and true voting if you weren't allowed to vote for a shit politician you happen to like. Same with low-content sites. You won't be penalized for linking to them. And if you don't want your visitors to see you're linking to not-so-useful sites, then step out of the coop.

Best compromis is what's been discussed elsewhere, like AdSense URL filter. Where you can decide to blacklist sites but at the cost of weight, proportionally to how many you block.

Sure it's free! But I'm not a "taker" only. I also "give" pretty good exposure to others.

I don't think that "take it or leave it" is right approach here. I agree that we may accept "grey area" but don't you feel it's getting darker and darker? And thank you for reminding about possibility to close an account. Really useful! :)

How about situation when your site is the main source of coop's weight? How about 'normal' members (non-webmasters) who don't have tens of sites? I hope Shawn will sort it out before coop will be overwhelmed with all tones of grey...
    ;)

Shawn is interested in cleaning up the co-op or he would have never asked for volunteers to review the links and sites.

He also zapped a porno site the other day after it was reported, so where you guys got this idea that he is going to let bad sites slide is beyond me

He won't, and it's never suggested he should. We're just discussing what is bad and what isn't. Some people have too high expectations of quality IMO. Of course blatant spam, hidden links, porn etc. should be banned and will be banned with our combined effort.

I don't think it's getting 'darker and darker'; it's just a numbers game. The bigger the network grows, the more sites you'll find you don't like and normally wouldn't link to or want links from.

I'm sure it will stabilize at an acceptable level for most of us.

Quick note about the polish sites having "messed up fonts" in their ads. It's not their ads, it's actually the encoding you are using on your site. If you use "UTF-8" charset, all ads (polish, chinese, german, hebrew, russian, or anything else) will show up fine. UTF-8 is also backwardly compatible with iso-8859-1, so you don't need to make any changes to anything.

UTF-8 (unicode) is also becoming the new standard for sites since it's backwardly compatible and supports any language. Most large sites have already switched to it (Google, Yahoo, etc.)

Looked again at links on my site...

    "Bariatric Surgeon" - gastric-bypass-surgery.ws/bariatric-surgeon * php

Clear scam... Lot of links to pharma, weight lost, etc.
    check links on
    gastric-bypass-surgery.ws/morbid-obesity*php

I just don't understand if this kind of site is OK or not. Or acceptable "grey area"?

Sorry, but hate to see my site linking to "bariatric surgeon"...

In one of recent threads somebody offered a great idea - to create a
"filtering list" for each account where coop members could filter
unwanted links on their sites. If the same site appears in more than
certain amount of filtering lists it should trigger either ban or
review by trusted members. Or it could be decided on public forum by
vote or whatever... It would be quite natural way to maintain coop's
integrity. Thus everybody would patrol his/her site for our good.
    Very much "self cleaning" system.

Good idea, sort of like a letting a search engine know about spam by reporting it, then they investigate and remove the spam (sometimes) :D :p ;)

    And another one just appeared...
    Death Row deathrow dot org

No content but 3 AdSense banners and several links.

Don't we have "no pass" to political sites... Not to mention - this one is not up to political at all... Again, hate to see links to this junk on my sites...

Could we have some kind of public list to report those?

Not so, in at least one case. The Texas Hold'em forum is absolutely gambling related. It should not, according to the FAQ, have passed the general test, and therefore should not be showing up on my site.
