Bad apples

    Back to "participating sites" issue...
Just looked at coop links at the bottom of my page and saw 5 links:

Internet Home Entertainment | Web Site Directory | Dish Network and Direct TV | texas holdem forums | buddy icons

    1. Internet Home Entertainment - electronics.bestgiftshopping dot com

No content, just Amazon affiliate... No network links. May be nothing
wrong but does it pass a "minimal quality" site?

    2. Web Site Directory - site-directory dot org

More AdSense ads than "directory" ;-)
Absolute .... with accents on "adult" links.
How in the world did it get into coop?

    3. Dish Network and Direct TV - kaptainsatellite dot com

At least some info and no adult stuff ;-) Pass for me. No coop links.

    4. texas holdem forums - talkholdem dot com

    gambling forum. Coop links.

    5. buddy icons - iconrate dot com

more or less ok though under seemingly harmless links there are links
    to something like this:

    funlol.com/funpages/britneyspears dot html

I especially liked this phrase at the bottom of main page:

"This site contains buddy icons and aim icons for use with AIM and AOL, blogs and desktop icons.
This site does not contain porn , xxx , sex , jack mehoffer, killer
    bean, torrent , or bittorrent."

Coop brings incredible value to it's participants but something is
getting wrong. Do you want your sites to be linked to the ones I
    mentioned?

Shawn just asked for volunteers to review links, why don't you offer your services to the co-op.

Looks to me that he is trying to weed out bad sites but needs help from folks like you to do it.

Actually I did offer my "services" :)

I really think that "filtering" should be cross-checking by several coop members.

I am sure that Shawn will set something up after he gets enough folks to screen these links and all will be well in the end.

maybe set a certain weight to link to sites outside those that generate the weight in the first place, if that makes any sense. :)

I'm not sure that just anybody should be able to give the yea/nay to sites. My sites all have valid content, but what if one of you looks at it and bans it because it's competitive with something you do? Maybe a 2-out-of-3 vote system is in order, and screeners should be given thorough jury instructions.

I am sure that folks like Shawn, VS, Disgust, Compar and Foxy will be looking at the sites along with others that volunteer to screen the bad sites out.

So it will be something fair with experts making the final decisions, not flunkies.

Just keep checking back, Shawn reads this forum everyday and he will give you a link to the information.

Do a search on the forum search function using the keyword volunteer and you should be able to find it.

If you can't find it send a PM to Foxy, he will help you out or give you more information as he seems to be active and knowledgeable about the co-op.

should just follow some guidelines i.e:

    - No porn
    - No spyware / dodgy stuff
    - No guns etc unless there in a specific category and are constricted to that specific category when its up and running

Those atm are my only concern, deal with the rest at some other point when the categories or something is up.

Through i do think you should only be able to link to the site your using the ads on, and maybe have a set weight you need to outlink, this way you have something to lose if you link to dodgy stuff. After all, anyone can sign up with a clean site atm get some weight that gets them in the loop then link to dodgy sites.

    here we go.

I think that if people saw most of the sites in the coop, they would not want to link to them. The guidelines are pretty loose and I think they need to be for something like this to work. Probably my cynical side and the fact that I have organized a few things over the years. I think we are at a critical point in the life of the coop. What people need to agree to and understand before they get involved in the coop is that they are not going to agree with every site in the coop, yet that does not mean it is a "bad" site to link to. It may not be their #1 choice, but it is "fine".

While in a perfect world we would have 50,000 sites that all have 100,000 pages with all original content and PR7 on the home page. The reality is, the bigger sites that are probably going to come under the most scrutiny, offer the coop the most bang for the buck (as they are capped at 4,500 pages I believe). Most of those sites do not have loads of content on each page; when people think about hand written content. I am a bit tired so I don't know if this makes sense, but I just wanted to say that I think people need to realize this is not going to be a network of sites that have hand created content by pulitzer price winning authors on every page. We are starting to get into the subjective parts of approval bringing new "reviewers" into this and that is when things will get hairy.

    the www.kaptainsatellite.com site is mine.

What's wrong with it. I have other sites in the network and have the links to this site set-up in those accounts.

the site has original content. other people in this industry seem to like it enough to steel it on a regular basis and of course i make calls to have them change it

Schlottke and Cachi are correct. You shouldn't complain so much, it's free! Unless it's really dodgy you will have to accept there will be grey areas or just sites you don't like. Still don't like it? You may close down your account at any time you want.

Or do like others do, don't link from your 'real' sites. If you're concerned about its reputation or it being banned, then don't run the coop on those 'important' ones of yours, but stick to forums and blogs etc.
