I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried this out? I see the option in godaddy to backorder domains.

There is a domain I have my eye on and it expires in a month and I have this weird feeling he is gonna forget about it.

If I backorder will godaddy grab it for me?

GoDaddy is useless when it comes to backordering, unless the domain is registered with them. Better options are Enom's Club Drop, Snap Names and Pool.com

what do you mean they dont get any good names?

a person searches for a domain, if its unavailable, you select to backorder the name. so basically if it expires, they go after your choosen name. am I correct?

Sorta, just because you back order the domain with godaddy does not mean someone else will back order the same domain with snap names or pool. Pool and snap names have a higher success rate than godaddy. However, these options could end of costing a lot more in the long run.

If you really, really want the domain and are prepared to bid against other potential backorders, then go with pool. Godaddy is a good option if you do not want to spend a lot of money. If godaddy does not get it for you then you can apply the backorder to a different domain. This can continue until you actually get one.

I have had some success with godaddy.

Jeremy - GoDaddy is useless because it does not have a direct relationship with NetworkSolutions or any other registrar except itself. SnapNames is best for getting NS names because of their partnership agreement. Essentially, SnapNames gets the first shot (has a priority) when a NS domain is released to the public.

Godaddy is good for registering domains and even hosting, but their backorder program is not worth a hoot. Hardly ever will godaddy acquire a highly in demand domain. I suggest using a combination of backordering sites so you'll have a better chance at getting the domains you want. I use enom, pool, and snapnames together when I want that special domain name.

Backordering domains = waste of time

At least from what I've noticed. They'll just renew the domain and you'll have wasted your time and money.

Unless you have a strong feeling they are truly going to let it expire.

LOL - guess you haven't aquired many good domains this way huh?

Backordering is a VERY good way of aquiring established domains in my experience. If you really want a domain and are prepared to pay a premium, than use both Snapnames and Pool. They have the most/best resources of grabbing the domains when they drop - better than 90% chance one of them will grab it.
