Backordering a Domain

Can someone please explain what back ordering a domain is?

I found a domain that has been registered for 10 years straight. If I back order it, will it loose it's creation date?

Also the domain name is from network solutions does it matter who I back order the domain name through or do I have to use network solutions?

    Thanks

If this domain name has been registered for 10 years now, then you should not backorder it. Obviously if it has been renewed for 10 straight years, the owner will keep renewing it. Back ordering only helps you start a bid once the domain name hits the marketplace if the owner doesn't register it as of what I know. Hope this info helped. :)

If the domain name has expired, then a good way to snap it up before anyone else is through a backorder. Since the domain's registrar is network solutions, you can only acquire it through snapnames in an open auction (they have exclusive rights to netsol expired domains).

If you do win the pre-release domain through the open auction, you will not lose the creation date (because it will technically not be deleted from the registry).

you can backorder a domain only if the current owner has not paid the renewal fees
