how does the back order process work? does it mean if i back order a domain before anyone else does... does that mean i get it.... or does it depend on which company you use?

I know that with godaddy you pay 20 bucks and they will let you know once it's expired. it does not mean you will be the first one to have it.

With most, you get it (at their minimum stipulated price) if no one else backorders it. If more than one person bo's, it goes to auction, with just the people that backordered participating.
