Backlinks

Am I correct in assuming that Backlinks are created when I write an article and submit it to an article submission directory, or, post it to a social bookmarking site, and place a link to someone else's site? In other words, if I write an article about motorcycles and then include a link to a blog or site that pertains to Harley Davidson's , would that link be considered a backlink?

You want links from other sites pointing to your site.

Building back links for your competition is not going to help you one bit.

You can exchange links with other sites but that is so much work and those back links don't have the power that one way links do.

One way links are links coming into your site when you don't have a reciprocating link going back to the site that is linking to yours.

One way links are the best. They are even more powerful when coming from a site with a high PR like 8 or higher.

The power of the back link from any page can be diminished if there are more than 20-25 links on that page. Don't bother trying to get your link on a page that has more than 100 links on it.

A single one way link on a page with high PR is probably the best. Getting that link is the tough part.

Writing articles to high PR article sites is a good way.

Writing an article and submitting it to a website with a very similar topic and including a single back link to your site is a good way to take down some killer high PR back links. It's still a challenge and writing articles and giving them to another site is tough to swallow also.

I like to write and even I get sick at the thought of giving away free content. It's not really giving it away when you get a killer back link though.

Sometimes you can talk webmasters or site owners into exchanging articles in which you both make back links to your own sites.

These kinds of back links have more juice than a simple anchor text back link with a little description next to it.

A good back link near the middle of an article is said to be what Google is giving the most juice to right now according to my readings.

Most article sites don't allow you to add links to your article body and the most popular and highly touted Ezinearticles site does NOT allow these kinds of back links.

They make you add them to the author info section which doesn't carry as much weight as a link inside the article body.

One article site that does is ArticleBase and that’s where I go I to get those article body back links.

There are lots of places to score good back links you just have to be creative and keep your mind open.

Read the posts here and you will get lots of great ideas.

Hope I helped and didn’t go overboard.

    Peace,

    Herman

In my opinion, the main point to always keep in mind is content and content and content again.
Trading links might help but should remain under control (ie manually)

Herman, can I post articles to social bookmarking sites such as digg and include my link in the text of the article?

A sure way to gain backlinks is to blog about the website. Other way to gain backlinks is to post on DO FOLLOW related forums and comments on DO FOLLOW blogs.
