Free directories are good as they only cost you time. For low competition keywords like mine these work well.

Link exchanges with others seem to be ok. I haven't read anything about 2 way exchanges but I didn't notice any difference for my site after I did some of these.

Articles are pretty easy if you don't minding writing every once and a while.

Oh and forum sigs don't hurt either.

Yes you can have lots of backlinks from quality sites if you know how to attract webmaster to link to you. Tell them how can their site benefit from linking to your site. Also you need to do hard work in building links.

If you have an account in google webmaster tools you can see some of your links coming from directories, forums, bookmarking site and blogs.

 

i agree, lavalinx has been really great for my sites too! it's going to be huge! you should get in now while they're doing a free promotion, first 500 people get to sign in free, there's already tons of people in there to trade with.
