Backlinks with Duplicate IPs, How bad is it??

    HI Guys,
This is my first post in the forum.
I have just realised that the backlinks on one of our sites have duplicate IPs. We pay an external SEO agancy to get us backlinks ( of course ethically and relevant ), but when I did this little research with SEO ELite, I found to my surprise at least 80e% of those backlinks provided by the agency are duplicate.
Moreover, they have no relevance whatsoever with our industry and none of them have any search engine weight.

Our website in question have NO PR assigned to it and I am wondering if this backlinking has anything to do with it? HOw bad is this whole duplicate IP affair in Google's eyes?

    Thanks:)

hmmm, the fact that most the backlinks have no relevancy ..

do you mean 80% are the same ip? or there is two of each which account for 80% of your backlinks?

I meant out of about 250 odd backlinks, 100 odd have one IP and other 100 odd have another. Basically two sets of 100 backlinks have two IPs only as opposed to having 200 odd ideally.
Most of these duplicate ones have the first three parts of IP same.Only carying in the last bit.
I think its still bad, but can this actually damage rather than benefit?

Any backlinks is better than no backlinks. Try obtaining backlinks from relevant sites, forums and blogs.

Its not bad. The only problem is that, links from same IP don't worth much compared to same number of back links coming from different IPs.

    Don't worry about it.

Okay, most of you seem to say that although duplicate IP backlinks won't do any good but they are not menacing in any as well.

What if we are paying a good amount of money to get them? Would you say money wasted?

don't worry about duplicate IP backlinks. 90% web sites using shared hosting. i have around 20 sites from 3 different servers.

BACK LINKS HAS NO VALUE... ITS every one misunderstanding... Google count only natural back links... Never count the links who created artificially.. means reci, one way, LE programs... Googles new algorithm dosnt support PAID, LINK Programs... YOU MAY THINK HOW GOOGLE CAN FIND IS IT PAID OR NOT ??????
    GOOGLE CAN......

I know having read somewhere in Matt Cutts' blog that Google is clamping down hard on link buying.
There has also been discussion somewhere about how google might be scouring through gmail accounts to spy on link buying and selling. Tht's a bit overboard and might be a gossip.

But I am pretty sure, so many( 200+) backlinks with duplicate IPs are a sure shot indication of link spam and Google definitely penalises the site.

thats right... like someone said... something is better than nothing... however if you have paid for backlinks... and got those... your money have been wasted cause you should have made sure that all backlinks were from different places....

My only summary: Dont pay for backlinks! Write good content, and people will link to you automatically... (I know, easier said than done) Use forum signatures and comment whenever you can.. thats the best thing to do if you want to contribute and get yourself some gain free :)
