If I put free images, calendars or tickers section on my blog (I mean some free stuff that will use the url of my site) And after some time 100 people will put these images into their signatures, on blogs, forums, etc. Will the google count these links as a backlinks to my site? Is there any difference for google between text links and image? For example, see lilypie.com
You know, I'm actually interested to see if anyone knows this for sure as well. My line of thought right now is that this wOULD count as a backlink. Google recognizes links embedded in images, but not any keywords on the image itself. I don't see why this wouldn't count, but Google is so finicky.
I read long ago that image links counted but not as much as text links. I think that's true as I did some tests years ago and seemed to work that way. Buy you know, google changes its algorithm once in a while.
I've wondered about this for a while myself and I have come to a conclusion. I think that google takes it into an account as a backlink but it use's it more so in the image search then in the "Google" side. So for example: <img alt="North Carolina Web Design Studios" src="http://www.mdswebstudios.com/images/logo.jpg" border="0" /> Code (markup): Would make North Carolina Web Design Studios show up better in image searchs verses the "google" text based side. Thats just my option if you have different or know different please let me know.
no they won't text link is the one which gets you into search engines... image links bring in more traffic as they are more attractive
That's a tricky one, it won't because theres actually no link... it's just using a source to grab the image. It would only help if the img tag was inside a link with an alt desc.
They could help but not much, and yeah they are more special for traffic. Other people/site owner usually prefer traffic.
Yes they can help you by Google image search for traffic only , i don't think anyone prefers them for inbound link .If you have written a post and added one image with tags and url , than your post url counted in unique but not image if it is indexed in Google images . But i am not totally , this is my point of view . Do correct me if anyone know more .
IMO no one has the clear picture related to this issue and I didn't see any webmaster talking about this ever and coming to a conclusion!!
It's the best way to get links using images, as the ( ALT ) tags is all what the search engine read and understand as the anchor text of the link. They will help your website ranking as normal text links if linked as the above example.
After lots of testing last year, image links even without alt text makes a big difference. The image link will help towards the general authority of your site, this will help drive site and page importance up. An example of this would be when a large site creates a page of content with no links pointing to it and within a very short period of time it appears in the Google SERPS top 10 its because of its authority. External keywords play no part in this. Its possible to get image links on some high authority sites, also an example would be those pixel sites that have high PR and traffic. Google likes to see a mix of links and it will look more natural with image links.
I don't think you guys read the whole thread... Image links DO count and are important, but he's asking if somebody displays he's images as the source of an img tag (without the ALT attrib), not as a link, so it's doesn't really count, as the people showing those images are not linking to it. they are just "grabbing" it.
images do count. The title/alt attributes are important. There's a whole algorythm dedicated to the importance of images (in webmaster tools, check out the smart search for image stuff) I admit I don't know how important image links are
