Backlinks - Understanding required

Hello,

My goal is the obvious one: improving ranking.

Here are my few questions:

1) Does backlink from dofollow or nofollow matters ?
2) Does backlink from irrelevant site (which does not has a keyword of your niche) hurts in Google Ranking ?
3) I am currently posting comments in blogs to increase backlinks. Is it a good practice ?
4) Does a backlink from a High PR counts ? If yes, then does dofollow or nofollow matters ?

If I get some good resources to read to clear my concepts about improving ranking that will be just great.

I will ask more questions once I am clear on this.

1) Backlinks - from dofollw as no-follow does not consider any back links
2) Backlinks from neighbor hood sites are consider (NON neighborhood links is not penalized as per Google but preference must be given to niche)
3)Yes it is good practice there is no harm
4) No. Backlinks from any source will be beneficial act (except no follow) as lower PR may likely to get higher PR in coming days. or vice versa.

1) Do backlinks which have similar anchor text hurts ?

 

1) As stated by Google "when Google sees the attribute (rel="nofollow") on hyperlinks, those links won't get any credit when we rank websites in our search results." Therefore nofollow links do not contribute in rankings.

2) Use of keywords in anchor text help to boost rankings.Also links from relevant sites pass more link juice to your site than irrelevant and drive traffic to your site as well.

3) Posting comment is definitely a good idea however your comment should contribute to the conversation. Spam comments will not give you any benefit.

4) Backlinks from High PR sites does not count too much as there are other factors like number of outbound links on webpage from where your link is sourced and relevancy of that page matter most.

I have just entered a query to find the backlinks of competitor for the keyword. Some of these backlinks are nofollow. Please note I used link:competitor url to find the sample backlinks on Google.

What does this mean. Please advise.

 

How does search engine decides that I have done it myself. Using the same anchor text ? Any other methods I should avoid so search engine can be tricked.

will not show all the back links of your competitor so other backlinks might be do follow links. check with backlinkwatch.com it will give all the backlinks with details.

If you rotate your anchor text regularly it will give good SERP for more keywords.
