When you are increasing your baclinks through whatever method you are using is it better to get lots of backlinks to your homepage or should you try to spread them out evenly to all the pages of your site? Thanks
If it is external link than I think you should target some inner pages that you think could attract visitor to stick around to explore more of your sites.
Your homepage could rank for some keywords, while the others will rank for others, so definitely try to get back links to your other pages, when possible.
It's usually a good idea to have a few entry points for your site, to target different types of visitors or products. For an example you could have a lead capture page where you give away a free report. Then you could have a main product page.
Having deep links is a good way of promoting inner pages which have competitive keywords. Also I think that it suggests to search engines that the site in general has quality content throughout rather than just a good home page. There is obviously a balance to be struck between links to your home page and those to inner pages. Most (say 70-80%) could be to the index page with the rest sprinkled around aimed at other key pages and section headings within the site.
Link to internal pages makes the linking process seem more 'natural' in the search engines eyes so it is worth including internal pages in your linking efforts. I would still mostly focus on my home page though.
I agree that spreading the backlinks is the best way to go, with maybe slightly more emphasis on your home page.
I think in the start, get links to homepage only. And after some time, start to build links for homepage+internal pages.
I have been sending them everywhere throughout my site. I use the homepage whenever I post a signature somewhere, but if I'm writing articles I try to send the link directly to the page the article is on. I think it lets me target specific keywords a little better.
