Hello. 1) I'd like to make a search to show me all pages in the global web that point out to a specific page. This would be a backlink search. Is there any way to do this in Google search? The "inanchor" command actually doesn't search for backlinks, but for the anchor text, which is not necessarily the same. 2) The same, but more complex: I'd like to have an api to tell the number of cycles I want to search. For example: if 1 cycle search is searching for pages that point out to a specific page, 2 cycles search would be searching for pages that point out to pages that point out to a specific page. Does it exists? Is there a way to do this? Macunaima
Yes, Yahoo is better, but still, it understates the real number of links to this address. While Google search doesn't return anything at all with "link:www.sitename.domain" There is no perfect way. The strange thing is that there is much more info for "inanchor", while backlink search is much more important...
Google can be used however, it does not give a real picture of backlinks as what others say. However; on the other hand, I think Google only shows those that are really relevant backlinks on the search page query, site:domainname.com. Actually, you need not move away from Google Webmaster Tools. It has a pretty good backlinks stats on it. Just my 2 cents worth.
So does followtopia cover both for you? For every search result it shows a link for the backlinks to both the page and the domain. I think to get the two cycle search you desire you would just need to click twice. If you have some idea for improving it, I can see what I can do.
google seems to be really slow about reporting backlinks... ive had better luck with yahoo but if you do a manual search of your domain name you can get a better idea of where your backlinks are coming from.
Google actually *says* they dont show all the links. Yahoo only shows 1000 and every other site that is showing backlinks is using Yahoo's data.
Google Webmaster is a great tool to tell you about search results and also your backlinks. Its a great way now to see how google sees your site and easily find any problems.
