I am pretty sure that I have created more than 100 backlinks to my site (mixture of submitting to directories and posting articles to Ezinearticles.com). But when I use backlink checker to check the number of backlinks, why is it that only a portion (much less than 100 backlinks) of the backlinks are shown? Anybody knows why? Thanks
Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.
There is a few reasons for this first directories take a while>>Up to a couple years especially for directories such as yahoo and dmoz so it may be awhile before you see the backlinks from these. Second backlink checkers usually show a unique backlinks then mabye a couple of links from that site, I have over three hundred from dp alone yet on all the checkers it usually only shows 15-20 this includes yahoo and google webmaster tools. Third google deep crawls usually only occur once to twice a month so you will not see updates right as you submit to certain sites. Anyway this could be a couple of reasons why the backlinks are not showing up, you may want to try a couple of diffrent checkers I recommend yahoo link:, google webmaster tools, http://www.domain-pop.com/, and http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/ all of which will show diffrent backlinks to your site which is more correct no one knows, the only way to know the exact number of backlinks to your site is to keep track of every time you place your link on the web and this will not keep track of the backlinks that are picked up by the diffrent crawlers which by the way don't crawl the same places so you may have 10,000 in yahoo and 3 in google or vise verca just keep building and use checkers to get a general idea rather than an exact point on where your at.
It's simply tough to get an exact number of back links for your site. Some take months to index for your site so the numbers will defiantly vary. My best advice is keep doing what your doing and just trying to get as many as possible and not really worry about the specific amount. Many sites will give you many different numbers.
Link building is a long-term commitment. It will take time for them to show up in your results. Google's Webmaster Tools is probably one of the best ways to be able to monitor your backlinks.
there is an opinion that google intentionally distorts the number of backlinks to yoursite, not because they don't know about them but to make it more complicated to machination with the search results. What do you think about it?
