Backlinks on heavy sites?... Or backlinks on relevant sites?

At the moment I create backlinks in signatures on relevant forums to my website, web design forums etc like this one. However, is it better to link on relevant websites like topic related forums or link on big websites irrelevant to my website? I just want to get more traffic!

Both...I use a article submitter that has a unique ways of spinning articles and then submitting articles to thousands of directories and blogs...I have been able to compete for highly competitive keywords and increase my revenue in a few short weeks...higer page rank sites are always better....but a lot of lower ranked sites will do the job also

Links from related site will be more worthy and links from other non relevant site will only increase you link popularity and no impact on search rankings.

In my opinion links with anchor text will boost you from any site.

Get backlinks from social bookmarking sites, Digg and Delicious provide great link juice along with StumbleUpon, IndianPad, etc..

I try to get both. Have more relevant links to your site but having irrelevant links from know sites to yours is okay as well.

Yes, the trick would be to get relevant links but any link is still a link and doesn't do you harm in most cases. Unless you get links from some unsavory places. Web 2.0 property is definitely the way to go though these days in my opinion that and seo hosting options.
