How many backlinks should a person acquire for their primary keyword before they switch over and start building links for another keyword?
as many as possible seriously... what kind of answer do you expect here? It all depends on your competition in the SERPS for that specific keyword.
As many as it takes to be number one in the serps for your chosen keyword/phrase I would suggest. When you say "switch over and start building links for another keyword" I assume this is for another page because it's better to target one keyword/phrase per page imo. - Michael
Hi ResaleBroker, Kind of a tough question. I may do it differently than some, but when I build I am using more than one keyphrase on a continuous basis. I also target more than one page, but that's me. I also do not stop. If you sit down during a race then you are bound to get passed.
There is a lot of waiting for links to mature. For one site I'm working on I'm second for allinanchor for my primary and so am developing a few on my next two phrases. But after looking at what I have acquired though (and the slow progress I'm making in serps), I'm going to do some more work on the primary but only from pages with the term in the title of the links page. A few deep links along the way doesn't hurt though... natural linking structure etc. I hope you are targeting your secondary phrases via internal pages?
I guess I should have asked that in a different way. I was reading a theory that "Too Many" backlinks with the same anchor text isn't a good idea and that you should "mix it up" a little. I was wondering what "Too Many" was. Yes, when I mentioned "another keyword" I did mean another page.
Something is definately wrong with this picture. MSN tech shows over 1,100 links and you have a pr2. What's going on?
You tell one Google CEO to stick it and they never let you forget it. Just kidding! Google hasn't picked up all of my backlinks yet. I'm sure they will sooner or later.
If you are tracking your keywords then I suggest you getting about 15-25 backlinks for one keyphrase and then start working on your next keyphrase. At the next update see where you rank (allinanchor) for your first term and if you arent moving up as quickly as you would like get another 25 backlinks for that term. Rinse and repeat.
you'd be surprised how much 1 backlink to your page will do (especially if the incoming page is related). Getting into the top 15-20 is easy with a few backlinks, its cracking the top 4 that is the hard part - especially due to the number of sites that use SSI to include SE results in their pages as an attempt to increase their KWD. Top 4-5 listings automatically start to get tons of inbound links thru that method.
I agree with the "Allinanchor" idea. What about the theory of "Too Many Backlinks with Identical Anchor," true or false?
