Backlinks? How long to be loaded to backlink sites

    Hi,

As a newbie to this site, please excuse if this question has been handled before (I did search but found nothing)...

    Okay, here we go:

How long does it take for my sites backlinks to "register" with all those sites that check backlinks (eg Google, Yahoo or whoever).

As background, I have used half a dozen of these backlink checking sites over the last month or so and everyone shows I have about 18 backlinks on my homepage.

This is strange as I have been working hard trying to add a couple of links a day (blog comments, articles etc.) for the past month ... ever since I had the site SEO'd (it is now a Wordpress site).

None of these new links appear as backlinks, even though they do exist on the other sites! I am sure this is affecting my ability to improve the sites rankings.

    Am I doing something wrong?

How long should it take (and how long should i wait) for these backlinks to show up on these backlink checking sites?

Or did the guy who transferred the site to a Wordpress format (to improve SEO) miss something critical?

What can I do to remedy this problem? Or am I being impatient?

I would really appreciate help on this as I have invested heavily in getting the site to where it is and I know how important backlinks are in the SEO equation. Thanks in advance.

    TT

For starters, don't trust those tools to give you an accurate reflection of the amount of backlinks you actually have.It varies greatly across Google, Yahoo and MSN and depends on which pages and links they have indexed.

I would suggest you don't check how many backlinks you've got. It's kind of irrelevant. Focus on building links instead. Some links can take a very long time before they get indexed and accredited towards your Page Rank.

The one thing I can tell you is that you will need a LOT more than 18 backlinks to get anywhere. That's why I am saying you should rather spend your energy on building links than spending it checking how many you've got or where they are coming from.

Thanks for your advice. It is reassuring. However, I am quite concerned because even though I have been building links over the past month, not one of the sites has registered yet.

By the way, I know it is probably a 'how long is a piece of string' answer ... however if 18 backlinks is too few ... how many will be enough?

There are so many factors that comes to play. You will never have "enough" backlinks. All I can say is that you have to keep building them all the time to help you rank better.

2 Things you have to keep in mind. Make sure you get links from dofollow sites - otherwise your links will never get picked up. Also, focus on getting links from high PR sites.

There's so much to explain about links - just download my guide and read it. You will have a much better understanding of what's needed.

    Thanks dadeon.

I understand your point about never having enough backlinks and will engage in building more. However, is there any way that I could be doing something wrong and the result is that even though I am adding links, they are not registering (all of them can't be NOFOLLOWS ... or could they?) and will never register in the future?

It may sound like a dumb question, though I remind the Forum I am a novice at this. But learning fast.

backlinkwatch.com is the best tool around to check your backlinks.
it also shows nofollow/dofollow for each link.
and a good way get backlinks is to check your competitor links.
very often they are just perfect and takes minimal effort on your part to find them in backlinkwatch.

It will take you more than a year if you work hard to build up legit PR. There are some black methods that may get you PR quickly but there is high possibility of your site being blacklisted. So, please do not follow such black methods. You just keep on working hard and then you will see your site getting high PR within a year or more.

There are many variations in backlink checker tools. Some don't recognize nofollow, some don't recognize image links, etc. So, all you need to do is continue with your link building method. You will see some results within weeks or months. Sites need to be crawled and indexed by bots. Some deeper links might take days or weeks to get counted as backlinks. So, don't give up on what you are doing now.
