It's not very useful because nearly everyone has a link in their signatures so there are lots of links on the pages of a forum . I mean the link is not as valuable as some high quality links . But it's better than posting your site in some directories to have 0 PR on the page with your site and there are a lot more links .
I mainly post in the DMOZ/ODP board here, followed by here in Link Development. If you look at the links in my sig (Body Kits * Tail Lights * Headlights) they all get top SERP for the keywords (top three) so topicality is even questionable by my experience. Though, my other sig is to my site and from what I've seen has done very little in the way of traffic or ranking (PR) though has helped in SERP. I have placed links to my threads here, as well as to sites I own that are webmaster related. Those get a LOT more traffic, as people are here at DP specifically for webmaster things, and not car parts of esoteric discussion.
Hey, Your site ranks well on those three keywords and that's really great. that means, if ur site is not webmaster related, webmaster forums are still useful to get backlinks, traffic and ranking as well. and, forums which are not related to ur niche, still little bit useful to get traffic and backlins.
the only reason why you may think webmaster forums are better for sig links is because webmaster forums usually have high PR. Check this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=941198 all sig links are good
Hi Qryztufre, There is one more question in my mind. Your site ranks really good on those three keywords. So what do u do apart from forum posting with targeting those three keywords? I don't think so that ur site ranks well just coz of forum posting. thanks...
don't be so sure I've done a few experiments with new sites adding my anchor text in my sig on a few forums and within days, I was raking #1 for my keywords.. they were low competitive, but it was just a test.
Exactly. And you don't have what could be called "relevant" sites, do you? Your sites aren't in the "webmaster" niche, but they are still doing well. That's what I've seen from my research of websites; relevant links are great, but they don't ALL have to be relevant to be helpful.
Hi Loco.M and Qryztufre, I also have checked out ur few more posts about forum posting on DP There are such good comments from ur side. Thanks buddy...
