Backlinks from templates

I know that some people give away templates for free with their backlinks in the template. This could generate 1000+ backlinks. How does Google looks on this thing? It is not quality backlinks and probably very low pr.

 

I think it was when Vanessa Fox was interviewed by Rand Fiskin at some point that she mentioned that external links in templates were discounted.

On the other hand why does a search for "Matt" bring up photomatt first other than all the template links to that site in the default wordpress installations' blogroll?

 

They are simply powerful.. I have been trying to outrank the freecsstemplates.org but look at the backlinks from their templates

 

Have you ever got punished from Google when you got like 1000 backlinks in just 2 weeks?

 

Really? Can Google punish you for that? Don't they like it?

 

Yes if you get to many links to fast you can get punished.

 

How can Google punish me? Will they ban my domain? I launched a new site 2 weeks ago and I've already built 346 backlinks for it. Is it OK or shall I slow down? How many backlinks can I get e.g. per week maximally in order not to get punished?

 

1000 in 2 days isn't a lot of links in googles eyes. If you add 50,000 links in 2 days, you may get banned or they might not get counted.
I sponsored a few templates and was getting 1,000 new back links a day for 3 - 4 weeks straight..

They are a great way to get back links.

 

OK, so I'll try to keep it up to 500 links per day.

 

I think they do work and here is why. Try searching for free css templates and you will see that the top website has a domain name that revolves around the phrase and more importantly, gives away quality css templates which require a backlink. Additionally, I suggest you first build up the links and then submit your website to the google index. That way you will not be banned because google really can't track you. Well it can, but I don't think it tracks websites not submited to their index. Good luck!

 

Links are links. It only matters if they come from relevant websites and the PR value of the page where they come from. You can't control if somebody links to you so Google will not look badly at a few thousand links in a short term. However, when the numbers increase it will be analysed more closely.

 

Google will not punish you but they will put your site into sandbox!

 

links in tempates are useful for link building. i dont think that is a reason for being punished by google

 

Template links are fine , think about some of the top forum scripts (phpbb) ,
check their pageranks.
