I was just thinking, what if i somehow got all my friends on myspace to put a backlink to 2 of my websites. Like say 200 people. Does anyone have experience with this????

Are myspace backlinks from members profile pages worth anything?

If they have PR-some have 2s or 3s-and add your link as HTML in the profile "About Me," that should be a direct link. Comment links are now converted to "msplinks," which enables MySpace to ban a domain, and I don't know if those are followed or not.
Better would be links from a high PR group (mine currently has 8).

Can you verify this? So all my good friends who were users for a couple of years have the same PR as me (7 i think).. That would be a good source of links/PR wouldn't it? Thanks man, you are getting me excited.

I have not found links from MySpace profiles to count much if at all. I had my old site listed on 48 of my friends profile pages and the links never showed up as backlinks on Google. It did help with traffic but did nothing for PR. My old site was a dating site and it had PR3 and the next update after adding the MySpace links the PR dropped to PR2 so I am pretty sure it did not help any. It stayed around the same in the SERP before and after.

MySpace links will not give you any PR increase unless it's from their official pages,or a sitewide link. But it will give you lots of traffic for sure.

Yes they do count as backlinks and pass PR, show up in Google Webmaster Tools etc.

I have got dozens of PR7/6 profiles and got a domain PR last update with its only links being Myspace profiles.

However, being from the same domain 200 profile links definately dont have the same weight as 200 from seperate domains.

Post a link to your MySpace page and I'm certain that some of us will be glad to add you. (I certainly will, if I can remember to come back to this thread.)

The backlinks do count (for the older sites), the newly made ones have all links as msp i think.

I have about 20+ PR3+ Myspace sites, and they are counted as backlinks for those sites i linked to.

If the profile page has a significant number of links to it (and lots from outside myspace) then it will pass a lot more link juice than a myspace page that has only a couple of links.

The value will be pretty small, I doubt Google wants to let somewhere as spam filled as myspace influence their rankings.

I agree... and the majority of people do not have outside links to their myspace page..

Oh yeah, MSPLINKS is attached to everything now so it doesn't work...I used to have ALT Text, Text UNDER the imgs and even profile buttons...NONE of it works for SEO anymore..cuz EVERYTHING seems to change to MSPLinks now and I don't think google follows msplinks, so you could stick "MySpace Layouts" everywhere and it wouldn't mean crap to Google :(

I've just checked some of my myspace links and they look fine. Still counting as backlinks, but like others have mentioned. Maybe this is due to them being older accounts.

Anyone else has experience with this with regards to having positive effect on your own site's PR?

Well, it's either about PR or traffic.

The former, I think that it used to work and it probably doesn't anymore, which, right or wrong, prevents some spammy manouvres, the latter obviously depends on many factors such as traffic to the myspace page, topic, link, etc...

A lot will depend on if your site has any relevant relation to myspace.
