Hello, Gosh I have so many questions!!! I will ask few of them for now. I hope you won’t hate me 1. How important are backlinks from my own website? I mean, if I had a website with say 100 pages and placed a link to the homepage on each page would that do any good? I doubt that it is as good as having a link from different websites but still. What if I also link those pages with each other? 2. I read that extensive linking decreases websites search engine popularity. e.g if I have a website with 50 links to various other websites all one one page. Is that true? 3. And the last one: How is PR exactly related to the traffic? Does a high PR automatically mean high traffic? Thank you soooo much for reading this!
You should have regular navigation menu with link to important pages. Cross linking will channel PR to pages that are linked to the most. Do what is right for human visitors and not SE. Where did you read this? A url would be nice. Never heard of such thing. PR have no direct relation to traffic. If a page is relavent for a search and the page have high pr, if will rank high in SE and therefor create more traffic. No high does not automatically mean high traffic. If no one is searching for what your page is relavent for, no one will be visiting. SPD
OK from what i've learned Backlinks can significantly increase your ranking within the SE now while having 1 link linking back to your hompage is nice its better for you to create a bunch of backlinking pages that link to each other, I have heard that you should try to stay within the range of 300 backlinking pages, also make sure that the page html file names are made up of important keywords such as if you were selling candles you could have a page called candle.html link candles.html and so on, have all of these pages link back to each other and also create a sitemap that index's all of the pages on the website. I know it sounds like a lot of work, if it makes you feel anybetter I still haven't gotten around to it, also makes sure that you highlight and keywords in bold so the SE will pick up on it, try to make sure you have highlighted SE on each page, btw if your using a cart that generates random content on your pages, the backlinking pages will be very important for you because you need pages that are static and that aren't constantly changing. No dude, extensive linking helps to raise your SE, hah if you have only 50 links chances are you won't even be on the search engine, you should have in the range of 1000-10000 linking to your site. PR ranking is very important, however you want to have all the other things taken care of first such as having good linking and such, these things will get your site get a good Page Rank which will get you listed higher on the SE.
