Backlinks from irrelevant website?

Hi, i want to know if backlinks from irrelevant website counts or not? And how about link exchanges with irrelevant website?

It's a link. I don't see why it wouldn't count.

 

i have read many times, in many places that 'irrelevant' links are not as valuable to your site (PR and SERP) as 'relevant' links. What this means is that if your site is about fish-tanks, and you get a bunch of links from Myspace or websites about auto-repairs, those links would not count as much toward your PR and SERPS as links from other fish-tank related websites..

how does google know if it's a relevant link or not? nobody knows for sure, but it probably has to do with some kind of keyword density comparison that they perform... either that or fairy-dust magic..

 

every link will help you from related sites on irrelavenat sites. links from a related site will help you so much and links from a irrelevant site will help you less

 

relevant and irrelevant , google decides these and we don't know the algoritm and its effectiveness.So a link is a link get as much of them and leave the relevancy part to google.

Unrelated links do help for PR and SERPs but obviously not alot for targeted click throughs.

 

If that's the case, how did the company i worked for rank #14 (occasionally page 1) for the 1 billion result ultra competative term "Web Design"

All our links were from sitewide footer links on totally unrelated clients sites.

IMO, Search Engines especially Google pay value to the theme of the page from where you get a link. If your link for fish tanks is placed on a related page, Google will pay more importance to the Keywords used in your Anchor. But if your link for fish tanks is placed on an Automobile site, the relevance factor will be less and the anchor keywords will not get much importance.

 

A relevant site PR0 is much better than a website with a high PR.

 

Every single backlink counts even if it's irrelevant.
However you would better concentrate on getting relevant links as they will boost your rankings in the SE.
