Hello, I've recently noticed that my sites have a lot of natural backlinks from edu sites in .doc and .pdf documents. Do they count as backlinks? If so, how is the importance calculated? They have no page rank at all, for they are not webpages, so how does Google calculate the importance of a backlink from a .doc or .pdf.? Thanks a lot! Univ
like when someone puts a link to you from a pdf or a word document and uploads it to a website. I have lots of such edu links.
Search Engines index all the links present on the pages or files that are indexed in them. So if the pdf or doc file is indexed, the links in it will also be counted.
i too have noticed the same few days back while i was checking my websites backlinks in yahoo ... my site has received a backlink from a pdf file uploaded on a site ... but don't know abt the importance of this backlink ...
I too got a backlink from a pdf file uploaded on a .edu site, the link isn't active, can anyone tell me if that counts ?
It is very tough to tell if they are counted. If I had any change to count these links for the purpose of grading a website quality. I would certainly have done that.
When dobumants like PDF show in Google results, the option to view them in HTML is always present...so they must count.
exactly. .edu and .gov supposedly don't 'count' or caryy more weight than any other form of link, though many of those links are higher pr which is why they are sought
