I have read in a number of posts that creating a blog and getting a backlink to your site is one of the best way to get a quality backlink. Is it true? I mean is getting a backlink from a newly created blog (though niche related) of any use? Also i am a bit confused about squidoo. Some say that initially all the links from a squidoo page is no-follow but if it starts to get some minimum level of traffic, then they turn it to a do-follow. However some say that just creating a squidoo page will provide you with a quality backlink. Which one is true? and is the situation same with hubpages? Thanks
Generally search engines index blog frequently therefore getting backlink from new blogs can be beneficial for site. If the blog is a respected one, a backlink will be valuable. However, blog administrator can edit your post, or even delete it if it does not fit into the blog policy. Also, sometimes administrators do not allow links in posts, unless they are relevant ones.
Hi, Thanks for the reply..i was asking about the benefits of me starting a new blog and getting links to my article/site from that blog. I read that creating a blog at wordpress.com and getting a link from that blog will provide a significant boost to my site..is this right? And what about submitting to social bookmarks like digg, reddit etc...i know some of them are no-follow..but what about links from do-follow bookmarking sites?
It totally depends on which Search Engine you are targeting for. Google don't follow nofollow links. So, concentrating on dofollow and relevant niche with targeted keywords will be a great help in boosting your SERP and PR. Blog can help you getting things started easily. Wordpress is a good choice. Are you going for free or own domain for wordpress? I suggest use it on domain instead using free dot wordpress blog. If you still want free blog, then you should go for dot blogspot which gives more flexibility in advertising.
I am just thinking about links right now. I already have a site and since submitting to free directories is just a waste of time, i am looking at alternative strategies to build free links. Article submission is one (which i am already doing it) and i heard that creating blogs, squidoo and hubpages are other good alternatives to get quality backlinks for free. So yes..i will be going for free domain name rather than registering a new one since i already have a website
Squidoo is dofollow if your lens is out of Work in Progress (WIP) status. A newly published lens is in WIP status until there is a Squidoo LensRank update (which usually occurs every 24 hours). That is, if your lens has at least three modules, not including the introduction and guestbook modules. HubPages are dofollow if your hub has a score of 75 or more. Squidoo and HubPages both provide you with quality backlinks.
