backlinks? by domain or by number of links from that domain?

say i have 50 backlinks from a certain website to my website. does this count as 1 backlink because its coming from one website, or 50 backlinks because it is actually 50 different links? and if these 50 are counted as backlinks, does this help page rank. or does google look haplilly on this, or frown onthis type of linking?

 

1 source = 1 backlink I think. All are from the same site.

 

1 page is 1 backlink. but not all pages have the same page rank.

backlink is good, but quality backlink is better. the inbound link needs to come from a site that has similar theme or content that your site has. otherwise it has little influence unless it has real high PR

 

Would that mean that if I posted comments on x different blog posts — on the same blog — would that give x backlinks?

 

It is considered as 50 backlinks only. But it wont show you big difference unless that site have higher PR.

If all 50 backlinks is in one page for example in index.html it is not good and it will count as 1 backlink, but if this link are in 50 different pages it will be count as 50 backlink.

 

I agree, since different pages have different PR.

And just a precaution, Google frowns on too many links on a page. For me, 2 is optimal, three might be okay, but I will not risk on going more than that.
