Backlinks are really important ?

I was reading an article (I forgot the blog name) then I was scrolling to see people comments till I saw someone saying that Backlinks are useless for ranking because Google never updates the ranking (only in x months/years) ?

If it's the case then why people care about it ? and how they are getting ranked in the first place if it's not because of backlinks

 

I still need an answer so if someone have enough information's about this please let me know .

Dude, backlinks are ALWAYS important. Backlinks are the ranking vote ups for a website. But be careful, one can downrank whole your website and another may get you up in the first page of Google.
Try to get few links from one high authority website targeted to your niche, relevant links with an anchor text gives the highest value.

 

Can you give me an example of what could downrank my website ? I mean I think it's not fair ... If someone post my website link everywhere without my permission and Google read it as a spam or whatever ...

Now another question , If my website is about programming for example and I post a link on a forum where there is a subforum about programming (but the whole forum is not about programming)... It will be considered as the same niche or not ?

 

Too many links from ONE domain may downrank your website, not sure but it would just raise red flags over your website and Google will do more check ups on your incoming links. This would seem to be link spamming. If they are not spam links and are created with effort, never matters. Even if they are thousands. But they may not affect too much when their numbers are increased.

Yes it will be considered as same niche, it is called as "Sub Niches" where you get links out of a website like you mentioned.

I don't know how many times I have said this, content quality is king. Apart from that. Backlinks play a major role in how well search engines rank you. A lot of websites a nofollow, meaning regardless of how many of your links are on there it does nothing for you. You will need to find great content that a lot of other people are activity using to integrate your content into. Thus creating great seo.

 

The blood of internet runs through the veins of links. Having a lot of backlinks doesn't necessarily means is good. The quality and the source of backlinks are more important than the quantity.

So, yes, backlinks are essential, now, from where do you want your backlinks? how much do they cost you? is it worth for the purpose?

Ranking depend on many factors & backlink is one of those factor. If you website have quality backlink, definately it affect your website ranking.
Other factors are your On-Page optimization, content uniqueness, keyword density, website structure etc.

Theme based backlink become more effective for good ranking.

I have to agree with everyone on this backlinks are important, they act like a voting system to the search engine each backlink is like a vote and the more votes you have the better your ranking will be.
