Backlinks are different in WM tools and google

    How is this possible? One of my domains reports 161 backlinks in webmaster tools links/pages with external links. Yet when i use the links in the index stats section it only shows 8, including 2 from craigs list?

    What gives? CL uses the no follow tag. Im a little cornfused.

    this is natural
    webmaster tools shows 41k links for me, doing a link: comment shows a few hundred ;)

    A long time ago Google stopped showing all the links at the link: query.

    basically link: command shows you a CHUNK of the total backlinks that are evaluated by Google. To view exact number use Google web master central or to spy on competitors use yahoo site explorer :)
