Backlinks according to Google

I have been working on getting abcklinks for a site now since November. I have submitted to a good number of the free directories. Got added to a small number of industry specific directories. According to my tracking I have about 35 reasonable quality (PR2-4) backlinks. However through out this process Google (link:www.mysite.com) has steadfastly given me 12 links of which at least 4 are internal. If I look at "www.mysite.com" I get approx 290 links.

I realise that we have been waiting for a Google PR update - has this happened yet. Also why do the allin URL links change all the time - does Google update these more regularly than the regular links. I know we should be contributing to forums and writing articles but my client won't buy into this yet. Should I be worried? Is there anythig else I can do?

Google only shows a few backlinks when you use the link: command. Yahoo or MSN can give more realistic figures.

The answer is that if you know you are building links then google will be taking them into account even if you can't actually see them with the link: command.

There was a backlink & PR update in the last few weeks.
