Backlinking Too Soon?

On Monday I opened a student loan website. On Tuesday I posted my first article to the website. I did the usual stuff: pingler, answering questions of Yahoo, posting blog comments on other sites about student loans, submitting the site to a few social bookmarking sites, a PRLog, a HubPages & am awaiting approval for a related article on Ezine Articles. Then on Thursday I added my second article & did the same as the first article, except I have yet to submit a related article to Ezine Articles.

Yesterday & today I've started to get link exchanges with other websites in my niche.

I was just wondering if since this is a new site with PageRank of N/A if I'm acquiring backlinks too soon, which may work against me. In other words when Google updates PageRank again will it find it odd a newer site has a number of backlinks?

I think the key is not to go mad, especially on a new site. Don't generate thousands of backlinks in the first week. As long as you're doing them manually and doing nothing out of the ordinary, you should be fine.

In my opinion it's fine, your intention is not to spam anyway.

Look at people who create 'link bait', this is a good part of SEO and it works, it's not considered spammy.

The amount of juice-passing links you create with your efforts as described above can be counted on one hand, so there will be no problems with getting too many do-follow links too fast that can be considered spamming.

Don't spam, don't leave "generic comments", don't use bot (is this the same as spam? :p) and you'll be fine.

What do you mean you can count them on one hand? I've probably answered 6 or 7 Yahoo comments alone. Are you saying because everyone does this stuff the backlinks they produce aren't as valuable?

There are not too soon or too late for back link campaign.

As long as you are free from using automated or black hat technique to generate those links, you are fine.

You will see the fruit of your back links campaign in next PR update as last PR update took place on 21st January 2011, previous was 31st March 2010. Next PR update might be in April or June 2011.

Good luck to your new site!
