Hello. I am doing a little updating on our web site and want to include some backlinks to some of our articles that are on our main site. I have a WHM account on a totally different IP Address with Hostgator - our main site is on a totally different server and IP - and I am wondering if I could open up a separate website with links to our articles from this separate site back to the main site's articles. I know that in the past, some SEs have made the connection if two sites are on the same IP server, but if they are two different IPs will they be recognized. Thanks
If its on a different nameserver and has a different IP address, you can get away with it. However, its not going to carry as much juice as if it were on a different host provider completely. But simply creating a new site and using that to create backlinks to your money site isn't going to offer anything. The site your linking from must have its own link juice coming in (i.e. its own backlinks). People use the technique you're going for (look up the term 'PBN') but by buying auctioned domains that already have links coming in. You can then host these sites and point them at your main page. In fact, this technique is the entire backbone of how I rank all my sites.
Its not about who your host provider is, its about when your link has some value. Means you are linking to a page which has good content and you are linking from a page that has better reputation
