Ok we all know you shouldn't bother with a reciprocal unless it is relevant. What about backlinks? Say I am posting some top quality interesting responses to a few high pr or .edu blogs, but they have absolutely nothing to do with my topic, will that hurt me at all? Basically, is there a difference between a relevant backlink and a non-relevant one? Thanks!!!
No one can guarantee how Google's algorithm qualify this kind of backlinks. This could be taken as a spam, but not for sure. This can be just risky.
i agree with jg123 . i dont think that they will hurt you . i think google will ignore unrelated backlinks or it will give low importance to them
Reciprocals ARE backlinks. A backlink is any link on an 'outside' website that points to yours. In my opinion a relevant reciprocal backlink is worth much more than an irrelevant one way backlink. It is always best to concentrate on getting links from sites that are highly relevant. Not only will that be a bigger help with PR, but it will also be more likely to get traffic for you (Which is much more important than PR will ever be)
yes,it cannot hurt you site, but if they use nofollow(such as wordpress),you cannot get any seo benefit ,maybe get some traffic.
Non relevant backlinks will help - just not as much as relevant ones. In natural circumstance any website will find backlinks from mainly relevant sites, but also from non-relevant sites. Links in blog comments contain the nofollow and are better used for traffic. So for that reason I'd stick to relevant ones.
blogs are nofollow? awwwww thats lame =( What about news article comments? Those are still good right?
Every backlink is a good backlink. They can always bring you direct traffic. Make comments only if you want to make a comment, don't do it just for a backlink.
All backlinks are good but much better to get backlinks from related site. Related site can help you get a better ranking.
