    Its a combination of domain age, fresh/relevant content, key words (less popular ones are easier to rank for), and back links that make a site rank well.
    All in all, you can NOT put a site and auto pilot and expect it to stay in the rankings.
    You have to devote the time needed to keep it on the front page.
    Dont think there are any free rides here.

    I agree. Backlinks are important, but they will not get you listed consistently without content. Both are important and you can never go wrong with having a site with quality content.

    Backlinks will get your site noticed faster and bring visitors much quicker than good content will. But without good content, people will leave moments after they see your site. It's best to have both good content and a decent amount of backlinks, although I hope to see a day when just great content is enough to get you to the top.
