Backlink in footer, blogroll, or article?

My website is a PR 5 and I was asked to write an article on a website that is a PR 4. I can either put 2-3 backlinks in my article with anchor text, or I can get an anchor text backlink on their blogroll or footer.

Does google recognize/weigh one or the other higher? As more articles are written on this other website, mine will gradually move down and out of the homepage, so that is my only issue. Also, if I write an article AND get a link in the blogroll, will google only recognize one of them or the higher importance?

What is the best way to capitalize on this for my backlink / link juice benefit? Thank you

I always thought they were worth more the further up the page the links are, could be wrong tho.

SO not matter where they are? If the blogroll is in the right column and the article starts at the top of the page, are you saying it is best in the right column because it remains at the top without fluctuation?

Basically, Google will only recognise the first link on a page to a specific page on your site. So having blogroll and an article will mean that one of the links will be discounted.

Perhaps the best strategy (if you can get a blogroll link AND an article published) is to use the article to get deep links to your site and the blogroll to link to your homepage.

Links embedded in articles are likely to carry more weight than blogroll links, especially if the blogroll has lots of other links. If the article moves off the homepage, you need to consider whether the page will have PR. If it's only one click away from a page with good PR then I reckon I'd rather have an article rather than a blogroll link because the link to your site will look a lot more editorial and may carry more weight.

Link from article is better than link at footer. If you put link at footer from irrelevant site your rank can be harm.

I would never get a backlink from an irrelevent site. Actually the site is very relevent. Does that change your advice?

In your case I think put links in footer better :D visitor will see your links from many pages of site. And more back link point to your site too. However, try to get more some links from article. This will help you very much.

Definitely use the links on the article, links on footer or blogroll are devaluated.
