    The most common format is:

    <a href="http://www.mysite.com/" title="My main keyword phrase">My main keyword phrase</a>

But when you insert it into a forum, the forum software will alter it to their format. Sometimes it will no longer count as a link.

It is strange that you do not knwo anything about back links.

    Quality backlinks = PR

Any ways it is better you read more about back links on net or in this DP forum threads.

The format you have mentioned is correct. But if you want to protect the link juice of your website the you can use nofollow in the url and also you can use attribute to open the link in new window like this :

    <a href="http://www.xyz.com" target=_blank>xyz</a>

    Nofollow example :

    <a href="http://www.xyz.com" rel="nofollow">xyz</a>
