This was NOT originally posted by me, it's from another forum. Hi 1. Go to Yahoo’s or Google’s homepage and copy and paste the link you are searching for. The search will yield the original site and linked sites in the search results. Even though this search is the easiest to perform it will not show all of the websites linking to your site or articles. 2 Go to the main page of Yahoo and type “link:†followed by your domain name. Leave no spaces between the colon and the domain name. This will bring you to Yahoo Site Explorer, which will show you all the “Inlinks†or backlinks to your website or article. 3 Go to the Google homepage and type “link:†hit the spacebar, copy and paste your domain name. You must include a space between the colon and URL otherwise the search will not yield any results. This will bring up a listing of the original site and any sites that include backlinks to the original site. 4 Go to Google Webmaster Central click the Resource link below. Create an account or log in using your Google email account. Add your URL after you log in, and Google Webmaster will retrieve your “Links Data†or backlink information. However, you will have to wait for the results because Google goes through a verification process to confirm ownership of the site. Keep sharing informative information.
That's good info. If you want to see all the backlinks to your site in Google, then you'll have to rely on Google Webmasters. The Google search link: method only retrieves a few major links to the site.
No, Google webmaster tool also shows some important links just little more then google search engine.
It depends on the objectives being pursued. The best way is to install a plugin for Firefox SEO Quake - convenient (the center of Google's webmaster too). Yahoo shows all the backlinks and Google - only those who attached importance.
yeah I'm not convinced of the accuracy here on the "link:" searches - they seem to bring up a lot of other stuff; not just places containing the links
I definitely agree that the webmaster tools are the best. Just thought I'd throw a few other ideas out there
