Hi everyone, Just wanted to get some opinions on the following. I have setup backlinks through various sites directed to my website. They have worked well so far but I am still trying to determine what works best with backlink anchor text and pages the links go to. Should I be linking backlinks to specific pages within my site that are optimized for that keyword phrase? Or should I just link to my main site only? What will produce better results with google rankings? For example purposes , lets say i have the domain usedcarscanada.com (not my actual domain just making one up for now). Within the site I have pages for specific brands of used cars. So a page called usedcarscanada.com/honda-used-cars.html If I setup a backlink on another site using "Honda Used Cars" should it point to the main site usedcarscanada.com or to the specific page that keyword phrase is optimized for usedcarscanada.com/honda-used-cars.html On my site , for the main index page I have only optimized about 5 keyword phrases. So I figured up until now, that its ok to link to the main site as it has the same keyword phrases in the content, etc. as my individual pages. On pages within the site, I have optimized for 1 or 2 keyword phrases only. One other problem, I am located in canada and own a .com. Should have registered a .ca a year back originally but too late now. I recently switched my website hosting to a Canadian server so google knows better I am a canadian website and have set my google webmaster country location to canada. I noticed I have many keyword phrases that are #1 and #2 for google rankings on the google.com (USA) searches, but in the #15-20 range on google.ca (canada) or (canada world wide) searches. Just wondering how to fix this problem so the canada rankings match the usa rankings or are at least close. Can't seem to get google to know I have a website targeted to canadian searches specifically. Your help is much appreciated everyone. Sorry for the long story. Just want to make sure I'm giving some details. Thanks, Joe
Point it to the page you think will suit the customer better. If he is looking for used Honda cars, it would probably be better for him to land on the Honda page directly. You could also make him land on the main page, but ensure that the link to the Honda page is visible, otherwise he leaves and you lose a potential customer. It never hurts to link to your internal pages. Pointing all the links to the main page might make it look unnatural. Buy some links from Canadian websites. You could also buy the .ca version of the same domain and redirect it to your site.
Thanks for the info....what about registering the .ca and having the .com point to the .ca ? just because all my backlinks are pointing to the .com ....would this work?
