Hi All, I have built a site glassblockshop.ie,and am looking for some backlink advice. I have 1 main competitor in my marketplace(a quick seach on google.ie will show the site in question!),my query is that this competitor appears to have many thousands of backlinks coming from all sorts of sites (.pl if I am not mistaken)that have nothing to to with selling glass blocks(what I sell),is this the reason that they are ranking well on page one for keywords "glass block" and "glass blocks" and if so what are my options for getting to page one for these 2 keyword phrases. What can I do to achieve the same results,I feel my site has relevant and genuine content,even if it doesnt look brilliant but the sales are achieved over the phone. I need to get to page 1 for these items a.s.a.p,I have a page 1 presence for the terms "fire rated glass blocks","glass block shower" however I am on page 5 for "glass block/blocks". I recently updated my site with new layout and content resulting in a lot of cached 404's from Google,I deleted these from webmaster tools. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,I hope I am posting this in the right section,if not please advise. Thanks in advance.
Hey do not wret man its so very simple any of the top class websites it is not the number of backlinks to your site that matters but the quality of these links do matter. Just go to google then type in this "glass block" +blogs or just go to more.. on top of the google header then select blogs search for the term you want then start commenting on all the sites which is very similar to your site voila after a week you site kick starts its higher positions slowly but effectively with help of quality backlinks. The site with 5000 backlinks low quality can be overnight dominated by a smaller and newer site with just 30 + backlinks do follow Very HIGH quality site backlink i.e., website with the same keyword as you are site or blog.

One of the major factors in ranking is getting those quality inbound links with the right anchor text of 'glass blocks'. For this particular niche you might consider paying google for a top sponsor listing. I don't think your targeted keywords would he that pricey
You could also target a larger number of longtail keyword phrases in your niche which would be easier to rank for and would likely bring more traffic in your niche than the few keywords you mentioned.
Add your website to some general directories and also to some .ie directories. Since i own a directory i can give you a free partner link on my homepage for the keyword of your choice. no strings attached. You can have the placement until the next pr update, which might improve your serps for the keyword you want. Just add your website to my directory under the correct category for the keyword of your choice and a good description and i will give you a free partner link on all my pages for 4 months until next Pr update. My directory is PR3 and has alexa of 63k, it can be found in my signature.
I beg to differ with a previous comment. I think quantity of links is everything. I have competitors with thousands of GARBAGE backlinks that were all fabricated by the webmaster, which should theoretically do nothing to rank their site whatsoever, yet they're in the top 5 for ridiculously competitive two word keywords. I monitor these guys all the time and they are using scum tactics to get links, including doorway pages and footer links on their own sites pointing to other sites they own. I saw that they barely even have a single natural backlink from a 3rd party site, all of their links are from their own personal farm. I've reported them to Google's spam team about 3 times in the past year and nothing was done, as usual (ironically, this article just came out last week on that topic)
I personally think it goes both way: either high quality links or huge quantity of links though those sites with huge quantities of low quality links seem to bounce in and out of the serps quite a bit.. I've got sites on Google page 1 for very competitive terms with maybe 5% of the total links that some of the other sites have. just my two cents
Nothing brings results like some good old fashioned hard work. Seriously, you'll need to do the research and find quality resources to request back links from, and will probably need to some reciprocal linking. If you're not familiar with linkbuilding then I suggest you hire someone who is to do the work for you. Good luck!
are there PR 2 (& above) people who want to backlink in exchange for free services? example of free services are graphic design, web design, and programming. or could someone advice where to get high PR backlinks? I'm a webdesigner who is starting and want to have a high PR for atleast PR3 could someone advice me?
Sure the quantity of links do matter. But the quality of your links matters a lot more. Give me a couple of pr 5-6 links over a thousand crap links anyday.
You have a good directory but i think its lacking folder for EDUCATION related sites right? I also wanna add my personality development blog, can you help me, you can check the content of my blog initially, its PR is 1
Post articles where ever possible then leave a link to your site then build a network of 15 blogger, hubpages and zimbio , squidoo then a link to your site post atleast once on all these web 2 tech and then promote them slightly you could see some huge traffic from these sites and for your keyword increase your rank . Go on with posting unique articles the success is sure to follow . Patience required may take 1 or 2 month for you to rank high. Suggest you to target few long keyword with less results on google then move on to your main keywords.
I'd also suggest looking into some of the profile link building packets offered around the web (Angela, Paul, Terry Kyle) as those seem to increase PR dramatically in a short period of time. Other then that, as well as the other suggestions in this thread and this board, simply putting in the work and waiting to see the results is about all you can do.
Dont worry about the quantity of links as one back link from a high PR site with authority can dramatically increase your PR. About traffic you need to write quality content that is relevant to your product.
