Just wanted to see what the latest news/equipment you would recommend for backing up your harddrive.

i've always used an external HD and just copied files over to that.

as of right now, i'm using a portable HD for all my files (that way i can work directly from the office and at home w/o worrying about overwriting any files).

i would like to back up the data on that portable HD easily and safely. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Best case would be something where i could just plug my portable HD to it and press a button (ala those maxtor hd).

    Thanks!

That's what I do. I just bought a Seagate FreeAgent 500gb drive and put all of my backup and storage on it.
    :)

I personally perfer to both external hard drives and dvd backups.

    Dvd
    - Small
    - Cheap
    - Universal (Meaning you dont need specific software .. )
    - UnErasable

    External
    - More Safe
    - Stronger
    - Vast storage
    - Less time to tranfser (matters..)

Again it all matters on the files and your environment ect..
Example.. if its your wedding pictures it be smart to save them on both dvds (To mass produce and give to friends) and as well as on an external hard drive (more safier)

Anyhow lol sorry for the offtopic but if you live near nj there is a sale at bestbuy.com for 500gb harddrives <<

External hard drive is the best way to back up, fast, reliable, effective.

They are now selling one terabyte drives...incredible, really the best way to go for what you get vs. the money you spend.

I use two external hard drives. One is kept off site and I switch them regularly. That way, if the house burns down I'll still have a backup somewhere else.
