What is the best software out there. I can use my Cpanel but I'd like to know if there is any reliable and trusted software that can do this job.

Navicat is way better than SQLyog. Navicat has a free (lite) version and a paid version. The paid version is well worth it.

Do a cron job backup and then remote host it.

Which of these is the most simple to use. I'm really worried that I could seriously (and ironically) mess up my forums by using a complex program for backing up.

cpanel has option to download DB's in "backup" in compressed form

    Thats most easy

Other than that you can use phpmyadmin where you can select tables you need but u need whole db i guess

    Regards

    Alex

Just use cpanel or phpmyadmin. No need for any others
