Out of interest, how much television would you say you watch per day, or per week? Personally, I don't watch TV, unless I catch the news every now and then.
I dont own a TV. There is a few programs i like but i usually just watch them on catch-up services like BBC i player.
I suppose if a kid is subjected to stupid reality shows on MTV, yeah, its understandable how they can develop poor speech skills. In reality, it likely depends on what they watch, and how well parents and school balances into the equation.
I try not to watch it. Whenever there's a good western on, usually AMC, I will. Especially any with Clint Eastwood. Discovery is a good channel, especially when Bear Grylles squeezes the juices of elephant shit into his mouth for survival.
I went through a long period of watching very little television - but unfortunately over the past year I've let more of it creep into my life. I usually watch news programs but ... even they are a waste of time in my opinion. You can get more news from reading around on the internet for 20 minutes than you can watching the news for four hours. When I have children I plan on being very strict with TV viewing... maybe some pbs educational stuff but even that I want to keep to a minimum.
Both "Joe Kid" and "Pale Rider" were/are on today... Saw the last few minutes of Kid at lunch! Great flicks, and hardly worthy of causing speech problems, even with the dubbing.
Well he could have at least taken out some of those Chinese punks with him As bad as it may seem, I preferred him before he became soft and accepting of other people. He seemed like one hardcore pensioner then
Should have said "spoiler" alert... But I'm with you on that one. I was shocked at the ending! Shocked!!!
Haha, that's what my brother said. I think it was perfect though, it was symbolic. (spoiler alert, don't read if you haven't seen it) He broke the cycle of revenge and effectively won (they all got put in jail, what is worse, dying immediately or doing something in the heat of the moment [killing Eastwood] that will haunt you in your cell until you die). He knew he was going to die anyway and probably didn't want more blood on his hands before he left, I think that element was foreshadowed by the fortune-teller scene. There's more to it I could add why that ending was perfect, Eastwood is amazing, the rest of Hollywood has nothing on him. There was no need for all the special effects and stimulations of modern films, it's clear Hollywood has been using it all to make up for their empty meanings.
Nice analogy Nate. The other thing that I didn't like about the film was that it was trying to be funny. I think it didn't mix well and would have preferred it without the jokes.
What it really did is showed that at one time in our lives there was no such thing as "PC" and people actually said it like it is, spoke plainly, never held back, and in doing so never meant or took anything to be "disrespect".
