Background Images Stopped Appearing

I have scoured the internet for a bit now and am unable to locate the solution to my problem (and yes, I have already searched this forum...). I am quite firmiliar with CSS (and pretty proficient if I may say so myself), but by no means would I consider myself the definitive expert on the matter. Maybe some fresh eyes can help me locate the problem.

I have a website design I am creating. For the most part it is complete and functions as I would like it to. The problem arose when several images suddenly quit appearing. No I didn't change anything... they simply quit showing up.

Before I go any further, the layout can be seen at:

If you notice, the site looks a bit odd as many of the images are not there. I initially thought it was just background images that where not showing up (as is the case with the header or "top" div, and the footer). But upon closer inspection the middle column of thumbnails is also no longer displaying and these are not background images.

I just can't seem to locate the problem. If you right click on the missing images, and click "View Image" or "View Background Image" you will see that the images in fact do reside on the server and are not missing.

So what's the problem? Where have my images gone? I'm sure its a simple solution that I just overlooked :p

Fixed. The problem was with the server not the code. :)

What's with the page being >400kBytes? Have you even tried to optimize any of those images? How about losing a few?

    Total HTTP Requests: 21
    Total Size: 458771 bytes
    Code (markup):
    cheers,
