Back to Google?

It's looking like this month my revenue will probably fall to levels that are lower than when I was running adsense exclusively. As much as I hate to do it, I'm seriously considering going back to all Google. ... The bottom line is the bottom line.

Though it's too early to make this call, I know, YPN is essentially starting to look like a bust to me. Well, ok, not a "bust," but if my bottom line isn't any better, what's the point? Will Yahoo publishers one day simply be all the spammers who were kicked out of Google? I wonder if Yahoo truly realizes the opportunity they seem to be squandering.

What makes you think spammers won't be kicked out of YPN?

Because that might be all they have. What would they do then?

    back to google...

Yes, YPN has really disappointed me this month. Seems each month it drops a litttle lower and a little lower...not a big drop from month to month, but if I look back at Sept of 05 vs Feb 06 - it's a very large drop. :(

Google, old friend... nice to see you again.

i'm gonna still stick it out with YPN because this month my earnings are so far $x,xxx as with adsense they would only be $xx.xx or $xxx.xx if I was lucky.

    YPN still pays me better

Well, as long as they're paying you better, it makes sense, of course. That was the case with me up until recently. Actually, today I went ahead and switched back to Google. I was on a path to earn almost ZERO. A few months ago I was earning great ... I mean GREAT! But now, worse than Google. I'm sure I'll give Yahoo another try if they can get their act together, but right now they're looking pitiful. In any case, I'm happy with the very short burst of good money they gave me. But the only thing they've convinced me of is that they were able to give me a very short burst of good money. But I'm not about to hang around when I'm earning absolutely nothing.

Actually, I think they are probably trying to intentionally drive me out. There are only a few thousand of us in beta, I believe. It's not beyond the scope of rigging things with a hands-on approach. True, I may just be paranoid, but I wonder why, for instance, that they refuse to block urls that I put on block. I have some that I put on block weeks ago - still showing up, of course. Am I supposed to believe that Yahoo doesn't have engineers bright enough to block a url?

I'm still using both Google and YPN...every time I log into my email, I expect to be banned by one of them. That's how paranoid I've become.

As soon as they both ban me, it'll be on to selling my own advertising and cutting out the middleman.

BTW, I'm going to be starting an industry-type site specifically geared FOR publishers. It will have articles (hopefully featuring some of YOU GUYS' stories) about ad companies, which ones are stealing from us, which ones are late, which ones are good (if one exists), etc. I think if it gained popularity and it was THE PLACE for publishers, it would really help us out. For example, if the site is checked by thousands of publishers every day, and there's an article about how Google banned someone for some ignorant reason and then didn't pay them, it would 1) make a lot of publishers look at google different and/or stop using them, and 2) it would make Google re-think how they treat publishers.

Google is just one of many though. All internet ad companies need to adjust their relationships with publishers, and that's the goal of the site I'm creating.

You could say that again. It's only a matter of time until they have no more to drop .. which is why im focusing on affiliate sites :)

over a month ago i told adsense support that i was so sick of the dwindling payouts that i was diverting a lot of my traffic over to ypn... since i have a payment in progress going right now, i haven't been banned for it yet.

unfortunately i ran right into these lousy ypn payouts, lol... it rocked for a week or two, then right into the crapper.

the average epc is still far better than adsense, fwiw.

Man you guys are depressing me. What ever happen to positive thinking. YPN is a beta and it is going to have it's good moments and bad. I was upset when on he 21st they took 18% of my revenue do to an audit. Never happened before but they did respond to me and now I understand how the system works. I am sticking with YPN for they need us just as much as we need them if we both are to be successful. Also adsense is always the fall back and it is way to early in the game to call it quits.

Well, positive thinking don't pay the bills, as they say. I'm grateful for the good days that I had, but when my income dropped to near zero levels, I had no choice but to switch. Yahoo has lowered their payout A LOT, but an even bigger problem for me (I think) is the terrible ad selection. My visitors just aren't interested in the crappy ads. And, as I've mentioned before, I have the trouble of the advertisers pre-qualifying by putting very narrow geographic areas in their ads (e.g. city names like "Dallas" etc - if you aren't in Dallas, you aren't going to click). Good for them, but bad for me. Even when I block these urls more just show up for even smaller geo areas.

As I've said before, as long as this is the situation, Yahoo needs to jack their payouts back up to make up for the poor ad selection. I had no choice but to go back to Google. Nobody in their right mind would stick around for no money just to "help out" Yahoo - a $30 billion company, by the way, one of the largest companies in the world, and one that will kick you out of their program without warning for having "too much" (what does that mean?) international traffic.

I personally don't bother with either longer than I have to.

I usually only stick with CPC networks on sites until I have enough traffic to go CPM, CPA, and now even AFF.

Kinda senseless when you have over 5000 uniques per day and you waste them hoping a few of them will click your ads when you can get guaranteed impressions and track how much the ad network is ripping you off by comparing thir impressions with your actual stats. You just can't do that with Google or Yahoo.

And I won't even get into their ridiculous rule on not being able to use more than one CPC network per page. Not a problem with any other type of ads. So in the end it simply doesn't make sense to continue using CPC on a successful site unless it's a made for adsense site or you're getting $5 or more per click.

That is a ridiculous statement. Quality niche content sites can earn a lot of money with CPC ads. My sites currently average over $30 eCPM. You'll be lucky to make over a dollar CPM with CPM networks. And no, I don't get any 5 dollar clicks (YPN being an exception on one site - but I know that is a temporary situation).

Sure, when the sun is in exact alignment with pluto and the earth's gravitational pull is correctly balancing the pendulum in the break room at Google HQ.

Look I see webmasters complain on forums DAILY about their earnings going up and down. I've esperienced it myself personally. As someone who plans to retire on his income pretty soon I don't have time to be worrying about what advertisers feel like paying this week.

So sure CPC ads can make you more money today then next week make you squat. I never said I dont use CPC, I just dont use it on my sites with high impressions. Fact is I CPM has proven over and over and over again to make more money than CPC on those sites hands down and more stable revenue I might add as well.

Just because you dont agree with my opinion doesn't make it ridiculous.

So where do you source your CPM CPA and AFF ads from George?

    Thanks in advance.

Neither my Adsense nor YPN earnings are very big (low to mid $xxx.xx per month) but I like having YPN as an alternative. Adsense sometimes stubbornly serves PSAs on some pages, so I switch right over the YPN. And when I run a story that I suspect might have some silly Adsense stop-words in it I run YPN on that page, often with high paying results. CTR is still quite low for YPN but the high earnings per click give me some nice added income.

I'm fed up with pretty much all ad companies from CPC to CPM to CPA. With CPA, you don't get enough conversions. With CPC, you have to wonder every day if you'll get banned for fraudulent clicks that you didn't have a part in, and CPM pays pennies.

The best thing to do if you have a site with a lot of impressions is to do your own direct advertising. You know what you'll make, you know you'll get paid, and you get 100% of the revenue.

You said that CPC programs can only make money on MFAs with 5 dollar clicks. That statement diverges so far from the truth, that yes, it was ridiculous.

you mean that cpm makes more money than cpc on forum sites... if you were pulling in qualified search traffic in high volume, i doubt that you'd be running just cpm ads.

aren't most cpm ads under a $1 per thou right now?
