I think you should not pay attetion to Google backwards links . The links are exist. Count on google not to show you all (use yahoo) and pay more attention to what really matters...

Unless you are playing in a bad neighborhood, I suggest to skip it ...

If you are syndicating the same article/content to the directories, Google will filter out most of them as duplicate content. Use a spinner/get a journalist to write more unique content for you and THEN submit.

It may be possible that some of the backlinks to your site exists no more. May be the sites that are linking back to you has been deleted your link from their site or these sites do no longer exists.

If some sites that are linking back to you deletes your links at some point of time, I don't think it harms your website too much. All you need to do is regularly building new links for your sites.

De indexing is mainly of two types.

    1) Partial Deindexing ---> In this site loses 10% to 40% pages. You site is also showing Partial deindexing. Google deindex pages which are too spammy or less quality. If you believe that pages that got de indexed from your site doesn't fall in this category, then don't worry, Google will shortly reindex your pages again.

    2) Complete Deindexing ----> Site loses 80 % to 90% pages. This is due to ban from google for not following webmaster's guideline.

We will need to see examples. Also, using Google directly for tracking backlinks is a bad idea. Use the webmaster panel they offer to accurately track backlinks. Google hides a lot of the links to help keep things hush-hush when using the link: or site: command.

And if the content wasn't good, it's going to naturally be indexed. It has to be unique and informative.

Also, if your backlinks that you've build are shoddy, expect to get deindexed as well.
