I'm always use white hat SEO on my websites. I'm curious, though, about the difference between google, yahoo and MSN back links. Why does they show such a huge difference in the number and type of backlinks?
Google only shows a snapshot of your backlinks via the link: url. Also, each has their own algorithm and their spiders each will crawl things differently. Since Google has far more traffic, I wouldn't worry too much about Yahoo and MSN.
Google will not show all of your backlinks unless they already updated the backlinks. Unlike Yahoo, they always keep on updating and show all your backlinks.
Whether looking at Google, yahoo or MSN, I should have a lot more backlinks than what the three have listed for me.
I have a feeling the Google discounts sitewide links whereas Yahoo and MSN count them all. I'd like to get feedback on this from other people, though.
every of the are using diffrent algo. and on the other side, i never care about msn or yahoo. both sucks and the king is GOOGLE
Even if Google is KING. I still look forward for this two SEs (Yahoo and MSN) since they gave me traffic too.
Google follows its algo strictly would not consider links from directories, links below certain page rank and reputation. Although all such links can be found by others in the IBL list specifically yahoo.
Ignore Google's link: command. Case in point = my site on Google's link: command shows 189 backlinks. My site on the same Google's Webmaster Tools shows 10,310 backlinks. Interestingly (back to your main point) Yahoo! shows me with 19,800 links, almost twice Google's larger stat above. I don't know the explanation for that.
