I did not see a specific thread on this so please forgive any duplication. Am I correct in my understanding that the Google numbers for back links and pages in URL only update when Google does a major refresh of page rank? It seems my numbers are never changing day to day despite my certain knowledge of additions and they don't match the live results from Google. For example: Keyword Tracker Tool - Domain www.AeroSpaceNews.com BLs: 122 Pages in URL: 405 Google Live - Domain www.AeroSpaceNews.com BLs: 122 Pages in URL: 411 Much to my surprise that back link number was dead on perfect this morning! But the url data is a little off. I would not have started this thread if past checks did not reveal larger gaps between live BLs and the tool. I'd still like to know about the rate of update - is it associated with PR updates? Thanks in advance!
I believe Shawn has stated several times that the tool is a keyword tracker and the primarly function is not meant to be a backlink or PR checker. It does update with a PR update. Also, the KWT uses the google api which is often different that one of the many different data centers google uses. Even the data centers are not all the same so you can get different results depending on what data center you are sent to when you perform an inquiry.
Okay - got it. Today for the same domain as above - backlinks both places unchanged but pages in url live now 406. tool showing 405 - a trivial difference. Thank you!
Hmmmm. On the domain for my video production company, Aeronautic Pictures, today the numbers for pages in url are way off: Live Google Search: Results 1 - 10 of about 221 from www.aeronauticpictures.com for . (0.07 seconds) Tool: Search Engine: Google Back Links: 24 PageRank: 5 Pages In URL: 18 Last Check: Jun 20, 2006 So for the pages in url value, where live Google has 221 API Google (at that DC, I know) shows only 18 - that's a big difference. Not complaining here - just trying to understand these results and the tool so I can use what I do use with it better. Still happy to have it Shawn!
Most of your pages are showing as "Supplemental Results" which aren't being counted by the api. You can search the countless other threads about this situation with google which has been going on for the last couple of months.
@mjewel thanks for the clarification and sorry for missing the "Supplemental Results" element to this issue.
On 4th page onwards, I get the message "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 39 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.". That could be one of the reason.
Except for the new gallery, most of that site was hand done - no duplicate content - but it is about to go dynamic. It is all to showcase my own work... I guess it even bores computers.
