My site went live about 7 weeks ago. I've been talking to other webmasters exchanging links from good related PR pages, I've been submitting to related directories. MSN yahoo and many others show my back links in the hundreds. After Google BL update Google shows I have 10 back links...all from my blogger site. Cool.
Google BL = Google backwards links (sites that link to yours). As for the original post... this is normal. Google only shows a fraction of the backlinks they have on record. They actually do have (probably) just as many links on record, if not more, than the other search engines. They just don't show them.
That I don't know. With Google, there probably is some logic in there, but I would just let it go as coincidence so that your mind can be at ease. After all, it doesn't really matter since Google does know your links.
I think that Google only considers showing the backlinks from sites having good PR (may be more then 4) so it shows links from your blog which ofcourse have a much better PR. I have been thinking about this too, I cant see a single back link for my site, its been in several sirectories though.
Nearly a year ago the backlinks listed were indeed those with high PR. They then switched it up to a nearly random cross section. Nearly all the best SEO's have analyzed the backlinks to within an inch of their life and have come up with no ryhme or reason. Its nice to see them rise as a whole but as far as analysis goes, they are worthless. I tend to think thats what Google wanted.
don't try to build any logic on how google shows the BL's, just keep in mind they are there and ignore what is displayed.
