Congrats to everyone who appear to be winning the GPR sweepstakes this go around. I myself am holding a solid 5 on my home page, but the PR0 inner pages are turning to 4's,3s, and 2's according to the DC's.

So far so good I guess...

This update seem to be good and not bogus like we have seen earlier ...

The PR export data seem to be a month old or something, it is not totally recent. I will check this tomorrow for exact date.

I got 5 new PR6 which is nice but I lost one PR6 but that I knew already.

3 new PR5 and about 15 new PR4 from PR0.

Total count and bragging:

PR6 sites: 5
PR5 sites: 15
PR4 sites: 24
PR3 or less (not updated): 10

The ones saying that "PR is of no use" doesn't know SEO.

Real beginners only thinks about PR and is obsessed about it.

PR is one of many tools we have in SEO, it is important to understand it. It is important to understand that for example this update is coming from July 21-24, 2006 which is very long back. This means that any links after this date is not measured in this update. What you see now is the PR that was registered on the July 21-24, 2006. It is also important to understand that this is the first update since bigdaddy in which pre-bigdaddy sites got their home page PR updated (almost fully sure on this).

The previous update was exported on July 15, 2006 and the data was taken from 9-11 juni 2006 but did not affect pre-bigdaddy home pages (almost fully sure).

PR is vital if you work with any of the following: Link-vault, selling sites, selling links, exchanging links.

But I can tell you that I look more on backlinks then PR. The toolbar PR is always very old and if you are skilled you can estimate the live PR with 90% correctness by checking and looking at backlinks for 1 minute, I have done it thousands of times.

PR is just a tool and not a thing in itself, you have to learn how to use it. There are many other areas in SEO which is probably much more important: trust and relevancy are two such things. One very useful way to use this tool is to see the PR of your internal pages. You learn about PR flow and can see why certain pages ger higher PR than others, which ones got more external links than others, which link baits worked better than others etc. etc.

And yes, I know what I talk about.

My blog (and domain) are registred 06 July and I got pr4 now. I didn't get any quality links untill late August.

Nice post. I think one thing that a seasoned seo understands about PR is that when it comes time to build authority and popularity for a site, often it does require a little green bar to show a certain number before your are able to trade links. Furthermore, the more depth you have in pages, the better you can trade links. The more breadth you have in topics means that you can do 4 way linking such as:

Person A Insurance links to Person B Insurance
Person B Travel link to Person A Travel

These are true 1 way links, and are very powerful, but only possible if you have built out a collection of topics within your site portfolio.

PR is one factor that people use in link exchange or link building, but should not be the ONLY factor. Nice words on PR only being a measurement and about BLs being more important to look at, especially which ones google shows vs. which ones google doesnt show.

Totally agree.
And I'm not so happy as you Jim with current update.
For most domains I see no changes at all. Not even for one of thousands subpages...

And worst thing could happened:
For pr=4 domain which I hoped to get higher PR I see PR=0 on some DC !!!
What happened? I haven't bad links. No farms, no pornographics, no link systems....
From last update I have 6 new PR5 links. 3 new PR6 links, 1 new PR7 link. All from good sites.
Some links from your sites Jim.
Can't believe what I see. Is it possible?
Or maybe I should wait few hours?

 

OK, as I dont see any change on my sites on usual pr check sites I use, and see you guys mention dc's, can anyone tell me how and where to check PR on different dc's ?
