What are those f***ing idiots in charge of this country (UK) playing at?! A few months back, we had the infamous ban on baby milk being carried onto aircraft because of some nonsense about so-called, 'liquid bombs'. I mean, a movie would get laughed out of a cinema if someone tried building a plot around 'exploding baby milk' but in this country, the airports were flooded with security staff and liquids were banned from planes. Now, and get this ... British Airways are trying to get in touch with 33,000 passengers who may have been exposed to polonium-210, the deadly and highly controlled radioactive substance used to bump off Alexander Litvinenko, the ex-KGB spy and vocal opponent of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. WTF?!! People get hand searched for baby milk and other 'forbidden liquids' but people can stroll onto an aeroplane carrying polonium-210?! Machine guns in the baby's face but a wave through customs for the alpha-particle emitting, highly radioactive assassin(s)? Am I missing something here?
It doesn't say anywhere that they allowed polonium-210 on planes. The 33 000 passesngers were not in contact with the radioactive substance during flights but they were in contact with it when they travelled to a certain area (I understand they are suspecting some hotels or restaurants for this)
You are missing that you have to take your belt off, shoes off and are put in a cage that scans through your clothes so they can detect liquids (the stuff that makes up 90% of our body) but they forgot to put a geiger meter in the same detectors. So yes, it's easier to smuggle an A-bomb on a plane than a bottle of Evian.
Before that you probably knew it as 'that handheld thing in movies that goes "tickticktickticktickrrrrrrticlrrrticlticlrrrrrrr"' when they put it near green and glowing stuff.
Exactly! "Shoot him, he's an electrician carrying a bottle of water!" "Good evening, Sir. Would you like me to hold your polonium-210 while you take your seat?"
Sounds like a phone to me "Polonium 210 with Bluetooth and 3 Megapixel camera". Anyway, it's a sad state of affairs. Coincidentally I just watched V for Vendetta this week - it's sure going that wat isn't it? Sometimes makes me want to live in rural north of Holland again where everybody only cares about what happens in the village and no one has ever left the country before.
lol! It would have to be a "3 megapixel x-ray camera". I watched that movie a while back - it's a dark glimpse of the future if things continue on their present course.
I think that before it gets better it will become worse. But it is really upsetting, they talk about mass destruction weapons all the time and then the all airport doesnt have a geiger meter, for what I know an atomic weapon could be 20 kg, the right weight for economy class ticket. So now we know how al-Qaeda will take the bomb to USA! Or perhaps from another angle, they dont really believe that terrorist can get their hands on the kind of weapons so that is why there is no geiger meter on the airport? then the all thing is just to scare us. Dont know really from whom I'm more afraid Bush or Bin Laden with their fingers on the switch button!
