I really don't think that mentoring in AM/IM would do much good. Either you would figure out things for yourself or no amount of mentoring would do much good if you don't have the mindset for it. Not to mention that most people in the field would not share their knowledge for any amount of money.
Just start with bum marketing, it's simple, anyone can do it and it's not going to cost you anything. Once you have got that figured out just ramp things up and increase your knowledge base and you'll be making money in no time.
There are no stupid questions. You are 100% correct, a mentor is The best way to learn how to make money online. It's not naive, however keep in mind you are on a forum and most people here are going to take your being green to there advantage or try and sell you something (nothing wrong with that of course). In my experience however I would not pay a community for a monthly fee to get advice. I've joined one before and it helped a lot, but there is the same information available for you online for FREE. You just have to look for it. If your going to start an affiliate program that's great! I May be interested in helping you promote it in the future, I have a background in real estate and plan on launching my own in due time. Real estate and Business credit would go hand in hand in my opinion (maybe we can do a JV when i'm ready and share traffic). You've probably heard this before and I'll tell you this again. Research, Research research. Then you want to research some more. Learn online advertising and promotion (youtube,myspace,craigslist,USfreeleads,Stumble,facebook,twitter, Livespaces, forums, articles, yahoo answers,[just a few i could name off the top of my head, I'm sure I left out a few things]). Don't forget about off line advertisements like news papers and magazines. Establish relationships with people on this form and others. Make friends network. Those same friends can help you to promote your ebook or affiliate program in the future. For things that you don't know how to do, you can hire someone ( Sitepoint, here and other places will do freelance work for you). No one really is going to hold your hand and walk you through there step by step plan on how they became a millionaire with Internet marketing. Well, I take that back you may find someone if you ask enough times in enough places. But from someone who is going to mentor you if they are a millionaire or whatever what is going to be there ROI for investing there time with you? Even a few thousand dollars a month or so is probably going to be chump change to them. At the end of the day nothing beats hard and smart work though. In any case hope this helps. Good luck!
