I use Awstats to view my log files. Strange question, but am I mistaken that "Search Phrases" at the bottom of the page is a more accurate for the number of visitors? For instance, often when I purchase info products they display (screenshot) "Monthly History" and "Days of the Month" for their stats. But from my understanding it displays hits as unique visitors. Each time a file (image) downloads it counts it as a hit. If you have a dozen images on your page and someone visits, then you get a dozen "unique visitors", each time a image file downloads it counts as a hit. Each time a robot visits you once you get a dozen "hits", but no actual visitors. I once submitted a brand new site with no traffic to about a 100 directories and it spiked to almost 600 hits (6 images), but no "Search Phrases" and no actual visitors. The stats may look impressive, but scrolling to the bottom of the page for the "Search Key Phrases" shows a totally different story. Am I missing something? Thanks
AWstats are dreadful in that regard. Look at visits, NOT hits. Yes, the further down you go the more accurate it gets. Organic search traffic is down there, but that doesn't take into account direct traffic, referrals from other sites, etc.
