Alright so this linkbuilding technique is super effective and websites will want to link to you of their own volition. If your site has a blog and focuses around a niche then what you're going to want to do is create a link roundup of the best sites in your niche. Let's say my site is centered around "food sites"; you're going to want to look for blogs and sites out there that are food sites that look like the owners would be open to linking to you (as long as there's an incentive), but make sure these sites are authoritative and not spammy. Gather up as many sites as you can and create a new blog post. Link out to all the sites you've gathered and write a small paragraph about each, you'll also want to give it an awesome title like "Best Food Blogs You'll Wish You Knew Sooner". Just explain why your readers will enjoy the sites you recommend. Now, why would these sites want to link to you? Because you're going to make it a contest, that's why! Use a poll service like PollDaddy to create a voting contest where readers can vote for their favorite site. Now all you have to do is contact the site owner and let them know about the post you've written. Don't ask for a link though! Just let them know that you've included them in your featured post and that there's a little contest as well. Tell them that they're free to share it with readers if they'd like. Don't push them with demands! Ultimately this technique is really a play on egos. If site owners want to win the voting contest, they'll have to link to you or at least share it with their fans on social media.
That only works if your site has some credibility to start with. Back in the '90s there was a trend where sites awarded trophies and badges to their "site of the day" or "best x site" and expected the recipient to post the award on their site with pride. Guess why you don't see that happening anymore?
Nice idea.. Thanks for sharing.. The contest thing could really work out wherein our reach due to link share would increase significantly.
Definitely it is a good idea but it will work if your blog is also popular. For example: If you add Moz, Problogger, labnol and some more popular blogs in your list then these blogs will not share your that particular blog post among their visitors unless your blog has similar popularity. If you add low quality blogs in your list then webmasters of such blogs definitely linkback to your blog post but links from such blogs will not helpful for your blogs.
